A petition supporting the position of the American Society of Plant Biologists on Genetically Modified crops has been signed by more than 1,000 scientists.
The position says GMO crops “are an effective tool for advancing food security and reducing the negative environmental impacts of agriculture.”
The petition organizers say there is too much confusion about GMOs and that it’s hindering advancements that can be made with GM technology. One of the authors of the letter with the petition is Daniel Chitwood with the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis Missouri. He says the petition “gives voice to the individual scientist.”
