OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The new Deputy Chief Economist for the USDA finds himself in a familiar role.

Dr. Warren Preston had previously served as acting chief from February to August of last year before serving as senior economist for ag policy in the Office of the Chief Economist.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says Preston, who has been with USDA for nearly 25 years, is extremely well prepared for the demands of this position through his experience in applying economic analysis to ag issues.

Preston will advise the Ag Secretary and top policy officials regarding the economic implications of programs, regulations and legislative proposals affecting the U.S. food and fiber system and rural areas.

Preston officially becomes Deputy Chief Economist February 21st.
