Wisconsin dairy farmers and local officials plan to meet

rural road

A Wisconsin dairy leader says rural roads and maintaining a transportation system are major concerns of the state’s agricultural industry.

Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin Executive Director Shelly Meyer tells Brownfield two Agricultural Community Engagement (ACE) regional meetings will discuss the importance of maintaining rural roads as well as address water quality, land use and nutrient management.

“Dairy farmers and local leaders have a lot in common in that we all want the same things.”  She says, “We want a great community, we want great schools and we need the roads to continue not only for our communities to grow, but also for our industry sector to continue to grow.”

She says the ACE regional meetings started in the early 2000s as a way to provide an open dialog between dairy farmers and local elected officials on rural issues.

  • Roads cost lost of money….we all agree on that I’m sure. You want better roads well let’s try on this idea…..Increase the valuation of your farm land to a number closer to the valuation of lets say….$1,500.00 for the first 2 years then move it up closer to $5,000.00 valuation over 3 years….this would give you time to raise your rental fees etc….so your ending up with the county having enough money for the repairs that were needed and future repairs on roads and bridges…you see…in my county when they need more money….well….taxes are the way!
