Flinchbaugh not so pessimistic about farm economy

DSCN1485Veteran agriculture economics professor, Barry Flinchbaugh of Kansas State University, made an appearance to talk about the upcoming presidential election, but he stepped aside afterward to talk about the softening farm economy.  Flinchbaugh, who has lived and taught through many economic cycles, calls the present situation classic supply and demand.

The farm economics and political pundit was invited to the Wisconsin Corn and Soybean Expo to discuss election year politics with Washington insider Jim Weisemeyer.  After that he told me that he’s not as pessimistic about the farm economy as others are.

Flinchbaugh reiterated that he cannot write a scenario in which the current economic downturn signals a return to the 1980s when so many producers failed financially under severe economic hardship.  Flinchbaugh says he just doesn’t see that happening.
