Temperatures to vary across the Heartland

For the remainder of Friday, significant snow can be expected in coastal New England, while precipitation will end elsewhere along the Atlantic Seaboard. During the next 5 days, generally dry weather will prevail from California to the central and southern Plains and much of the Southeast. Meanwhile, showers will linger across the Northwest into Saturday, followed by a period of mild, dry weather. Mild, breezy conditions will cover the northern High Plains during the next several days, but cool, showery, breezy conditions will develop early next week from the Midwest into the Northeast. Snow could become heavy during the weekend in the upper Great Lakes region and early next week in portions of the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic States. In contrast, warmer-than-normal conditions will be in place by the middle of next week in nearly all areas from the Pacific Coast to the High Plains.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of above-normal temperatures from the Pacific Coast to the Plains, while colder-than-normal conditions can be expected east of the Mississippi River. Meanwhile, below-normal precipitation across the southern two-thirds of the U.S. will contrast with wetter-than-normal weather in the Great Lakes region and the Pacific Northwest.
