Weather

A quiet days worth of weather

Across the Corn Belt, generally dry weather prevails. A substantial snow cover remains in place across roughly the northwestern half of the Corn Belt.

On the Plains, snow showers are occurring in Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska. Meanwhile, winter wheat’s protective snow cover has eroded across the northern Plains, where a high-wind event is underway. Despite the lack of snow, USDA rated 72% of Montana’s winter wheat in good to excellent condition on January 31.

In the South, rain showers are ending along the southern Atlantic Coast. Cool, dry weather prevails across the remainder of the South. At the end of January, North Carolina had the lowest-rated winter wheat of the major reporting states—just 36% good to excellent and 24% very poor to poor.

In the West, a few rain and snow showers stretch from the Pacific Northwest to the northern Rockies, but heavier precipitation is approaching the northern Pacific Coast. Dry weather prevails across the remainder of the West, except for lingering snow showers in the central Rockies.
