Ceremonial signing of TPP

Top Story Icon

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman and trade ministers from the 11 other countries in the Trans Pacific Partnership have signed the deal at a ceremony in New Zealand. But, the TPP agreement needs ratification in each country to go forward and it’s unlikely that will happen in the U.S. before the November elections. Froman says he’s confident Congress will see the benefits of the Trans Pacific Partnership and will have the bipartisan support it needs to pass.

Most major U.S. ag groups support its passage. The National Farmers Union remains opposed to the TPP. National Corn Growers Association President says NCGA supports the Trans-Pacific Partnership “because it would give America’s farmers and ranchers greater access to some of the world’s fastest-growing economies.”  The NCGA wants it approved THIS year.

The 12 countries in the deal are: the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, Peru and Singapore.
