Checkoff finding new uses for U.S. soy
Nearly 30 new soy-based products were developed in 2015.
United Soybean Board (USB) director, Jim Domagalski of Michigan says the soybean checkoff continues to find ways to build demand developing new soy-based products.
“There are companies researching and using soy foam in mattresses, adhesives, things of this nature,” Domagalski said. “We need to keep promoting more and more of that, because it’s environmentally friendly, sustainable and renewable.”
The USB says new uses have helped increase demand for U.S. soy from 14 million bushels in 2003 to more than 111 million bushels in 2013.
Seventy farmer directors of the United Soybean Board oversee the investments of the soybean checkoff.
Farmers are assessed one-half of one-percent of the selling price per bushel.
