Record sustainable soy exports

US Soybean Export Council CEO Jim Sutter at Commodity Classic, Kissimmee, Fla., Feb. 28, 2013.

The U.S. Soybean Export Council says a record number of certified sustainable soybeans were sold during the 2015/16 marketing year.

“Already in this marketing, we’re over two million tons of certified sustainable soy.”

CEO Jim Sutter tells Brownfield the certification came out of conversations with end users.  “It allows us to certify to buyers in international markets that the soy that they import from the U.S. is sustainable.”

He says the U.S. Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol certifies soybeans grown by farmers enrolled in farm bill programs like crop insurance and meet conservation requirements.
