Farm Bureau Educator of the Year enlightening Minnesota teachers about ag

Don Hermanson

The Minnesota Farm Bureau Foundation Post-Secondary Ag Educator of the Year is informing teachers across the state about modern agriculture.

Don Hermanson of South Central College in Mankato says he’s taught post-secondary for 20 years.

“One of the things that I’ve done to enhance agriculture and ag literacy was starting at Ag Literacy Institute at South Central College a number of years ago in an effort to inform and educate school teachers about agriculture and about how modern agriculture works in the state of Minnesota.”

Hermanson was named Ag Educator of the Year during the Minnesota Farm Bureau annual meeting.

Part of his reward included free registration to the American Farm Bureau Convention that occurred earlier this week in Orlando, and Hermanson says he was able to brush up on some important issues.

“Food transparency-what the consumer is looking for pertaining to their food.  We’re hearing a lot about efforts on the environmental side; some of the regulations that are coming down the pike and how we can adapt and change to facilitate those changes.”

Hermanson was nominated for the award and had to fill out an application that was reviewed and selected by a designated Minnesota Farm Bureau committee.
