Oregon County latest GE Free Zone

A county in Oregon is the latest to be approved as a “GE Free Zone.”

A Jackson County Oregon group, advocating for “traditional farming” pushed for the ordinance to protect their crops from cross contamination.

The Washington, D.C. based Center for Food Safety, which supports the local group, says there are legal and marketing concerns when non-GE crops are contaminated with GE crops.

A small number of counties in California, Washington, Hawaii and another in Oregon have enacted similar ordinances establishing “GE Free Zones.”
