Better management of Liberty/LibertyLink called for

Weed management chartA weed specialist says growers need to do a better job of managing LibertyLink soybeans. Kevin Bradley reminded growers at the University of Missouri Crop Management Conference that Liberty is not RoundUp and LibertyLink is not Roundup Ready, “It’s an entirely different herbicide. It is a contact herbicide and it needs more gallons per acre. We need timely applications. We kind of get away with getting weed control with RoundUp with bigger weeds sometimes. That’s not the case with Liberty.”

Bradley says it needs to be managed much better, “Probably first and foremost, it needs a pre-emergence residual herbicide just as much as anything to reduce those week populations that you’re going to spray later.”

Bradley says growers will have more weed pressure than ever in 2016 with all the prevent planted acres of soybeans where weeds will develop. Waterhemp is the number-one resistant weed in Missouri.
