Snow cover across the central Corn Belt

Across the Corn Belt, an early-season snowfall has disrupted final summer crop harvest efforts. On November 15, prior to the snow’s arrival, more than one-tenth of the corn was still standing in Michigan and Wisconsin. Early Monday, snow depths included 9 inches in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and 7 inches in Albany, Wisconsin.

On the Plains, snow remains on the ground—mainly across northern Nebraska and southern South Dakota— in the wake of a recent storm. Farther south, mild, dry weather favors late-season fieldwork, including harvest activities and final winter wheat planting efforts.

In the South, Freeze Warnings were in effect early Monday north of a line from south-central Texas to westernmost Florida. Although favorably dry weather prevails throughout the region, fieldwork delays persist in some areas, including portions of the southern Atlantic States.

In the West, mild, dry weather favors late-autumn fieldwork in advance of an approaching Pacific storm system. Previous storms have helped to establish high-elevation snowpack in many areas of the western U.S.
