Minnesota Farm Bureau holds annual meeting

Kevin Paap

The president of Minnesota Farm Bureau says issues that come up daily in agriculture were addressed during the annual meeting last week.

Kevin Paap was re-elected to another term Friday and tells Brownfield the organization’s goal is continuous improvement.

“The importance of transportation infrastructure.  Taxes; how they affect us and our farming operations.  Specifically today, a lot of discussion on property taxes as it pertains to school bonding.  Also a lot of discussion on water quality (and) water quantity.”

From the new buffer rule to drainage, Paap says it’s critical that agriculture have a seat at the table when discussing how farmers do their jobs.

To that end, another message at the Farm Bureau meeting was to get involved.

“It’s so important to be a part of an organization where you’re represented every day.  We’re in that season of annual meetings and if you’re involved in agriculture, you need to be involved in those groups that represent you.”

Paap says Minnesota Farm Bureau saw membership grow for the fifth consecutive year while winning six national awards in 2015.
