Wolf legislation introduced in the Senate

Legislation has been introduced in the U.S. Senate which would remove the gray wolf from the Endangered Species List in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan and Wyoming. Republican Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and John Barrasso of Wyoming say the wolf has recovered in the four states and no longer needs protection.  The legislation is a companion to a House bill introduced earlier this year by Representatives Reid Ribble of Wisconsin and Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming.

This is the latest in an on-going battle over the protection of the gray wolf. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had taken the wolf off the ESL and turned management over to the states on two separate occasions.  In both cases, a federal judge reinstated the protections.

The Congressional legislation would order Fish & Wildlife to reinstate the rules which delisted the wolf and prohibit the courts from intervening in the affected states.
