Omaha-based ethanol producer Green Plains has announced the purchase of an ethanol plant in Hereford, Texas.

The facility, which was owned by Murphy USA, is the second plant acquired by Green Plains in recent days.  On October 26th, the company announced the purchase of an ethanol plant in Hopewell, Virginia from Future Fuels.

The Texas facility has an annual production capacity of 100 million gallons. The Virginia facility’s capacity is 62 million gallons.

With those acquisitions, Green Plains now owns 14 ethanol production facilities with total production capacity of more than 1.2 billion gallons.  Green Plains is the nation’s fourth largest ethanol producer.
