Weather

A wet and mild pattern ahead

A storm system crossing the Southwest will move eastward, resulting in heavy rain from Texas into the Southeast. In addition to rain that has already fallen overnight in central, southern, and eastern Texas, totals of 2 to 6 inches are possible. Farther east, 2- to 4-inch totals may occur during the weekend from the central Gulf Coast region to the Carolinas. Meanwhile, heavy precipitation can be expected through Sunday in the Pacific Northwest, where totals could reach 5 to 10 inches or more. The northern Rockies could receive 2 to 6 inches, including some high-elevation snow by Sunday. Elsewhere, precipitation during the next 5 days will be generally light.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of warmer-than-normal weather across the eastern two-thirds of the U.S., while below-normal temperatures will cover much of the West. Meanwhile, wetter-than-normal conditions across the nation’s heartland, including the Plains, Midwest, and mid-South, will contrast with below-normal precipitation in the Northeast, lower Southeast, northern and central California, and the Northwest.
