A person with Subway’s PR agency says the fast food chain’s decision to eliminate antibiotics from all its meat supplies was not hastily made.

On Tuesday, the company announced it will introduce chicken and turkey raised without antibiotics across all of its U.S. restaurants beginning next year, and eventually its pork and beef supplies.

In an email to Brownfield, Kristin McMahon of the consulting agency Catalyst IMG says the policy change Subway announced this week is the result of very careful consideration and numerous, intensive discussions with their suppliers over a number of months.

She goes on to say Subway fully understands that this policy is going to require their beef and pork suppliers a substantial amount of time and effort to implement.

That’s the primary reason the company established a target date of 2025.

The email closes by saying Subway knows their producers will work hard to make this transition, while finding alternative ways to keep their animals healthy.
