Kroger joins Indiana Grown Initiative

The Indiana Grown Initiative has a new partner. The Kroger grocery store chain has joined Indiana Grown which Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellsperman says is great news for Hoosier grown products.

“That’s 102 stores across the state of Indiana and I think the latest count is over 60 Indiana grown companies offering their products through those stores, so it’s a very exciting time,” Ellspermann said.

Kroger spokesman John Elliott says the partnership continues Kroger’s effort to support local vendors, something he says they’ve been doing for 132 years. But, he says, it’s more than just selling products, it’s also a job creation opportunity.

“If you sell to Kroger at the volume that a successful vendor will do with us, that’s a rapid job creating opportunity for many of these Indiana Grown vendors,” said Elliott.

Kroger becomes the second retail company to partner with Indiana Grown. Marsh Supermarkets announced their partnership in September.
