Three straight weeks of near perfect conditions

Michigan farmers have had a third straight week of ideal harvest conditions.  The Michigan Ag Statics Office says almost six days were suitable for fieldwork last week.

The state’s corn crop is ahead of last year and the five year average with 97 percent of the crop dented and 69 percent mature.  Farmers have harvested 80 of corn silage and 9 percent of corn for grain.  Condition remains steady at 70 percent good to excellent.  Soybeans are also ahead of average with 94 percent of the crop dropping leaves and 35 percent harvested.  Condition is 65 percent good to excellent.

Dry bean harvest is now 66 percent completed, up 32 percent from last week.  Condition is 59 percent good to excellent.  Sugarbeet harvest is also advancing ahead of average, now 22 percent complete.  Condition remains steady at 89 percent good to excellent.

Potato and carrot harvest continues for the state’s vegetable growers.  Michigan’s apple harvest continues for several varieties.  Juice grape and cranberry harvest is also underway.
