Cool, dry windy weather covers the Corn Belt
Across the Corn Belt, for the second morning in a row, Frost Advisories and Freeze Warnings were in effect across the upper Great Lakes region, stretching as far south as central Wisconsin. Throughout the Midwest, cool, dry weather favors summer crop maturation and harvesting, and well as winter wheat planting.
On the Plains, scattered showers are breaking out in advance of an approaching storm. The rain, mainly affecting the High Plains, is slowing fieldwork but boosting soil moisture for winter wheat establishment.
In the South, flooding rains are falling in the southern mid-Atlantic region in conjunction with a slow-moving low pressure system. In addition, peripheral effects from Hurricane Joaquin are contributing to heavy surf and pounding waves along the middle and southern Atlantic Coast.
In the West, dry weather has returned to California, following beneficial rainfall, but showers continue across the Great Basin and northern Intermountain region. Warm, dry weather covers the Southwest.
