Deere and UAW reach agreement

john deere tractor 2015Deere & Company says it has reached a tentative labor agreement with the United Auto Workers union, staving off a potential work stoppage. The existing contract expired at midnight last night (on September 30).

The new six-year agreement would cover ten-thousand workers at 12 factories, most of which are in Iowa and Illinois. A union membership vote to ratify the agreement is expected to take place Sunday.

Details of the agreement were not released, but some industry analysts had predicted that Deere would have the upper hand in negotiations because of the weakening farm economy and the resulting slowdown in equipment sales.
