Seed corn production plant exceeds goal

It’s been a good year for seed corn production in southeast Iowa.  Daniel Ganz is the manager of Beck’s Hybrids’ Mount Pleasant, Iowa facility – Beck’s third and newest seed production plant. He says conditions were wet early and good stands were established.

Weather in that critical week-long pollination period was wet and warm but not too hot. This is the first year of production at this former Dupont Pioneer plant. Ganz says they exceeded their original goal of 1,000 acres. Today, they’re 80% through harvest of more than 4,000 corn acres. This Beck’s plant will provide seed corn and soybean seed for Iowa and Missouri. Beck’s has about 4,500 acres of soybeans to be processed at the Mount Pleasant plant.
