Ribble tours “Save the Bay” farms

Congressman Reid Ribble (WI-R) visited some Brown County farms on Tuesday which are participating in the Save the Bay effort to improve water quality in Green Bay and the Fox River.

The farms are voluntarily using a variety of best management practices including cover crops. Ribble says the farmers visited farms in Pennsylvania to get some of the ideas on reducing runoff. They are now implementing those ideas on their farms with hope others will follow their lead.

They will be able to measure the results, the U.S. Geological Service is in Brown County collecting data on areas participating in the program as well as areas which are not.

The Congressman says it will take time but eventually the public will see the results in the Bay. He says he believes “we can have both a robust agriculture and clean water in Wisconsin.”
