U.S. corn harvest has started

The 2015 U.S. corn harvest is getting underway.

The USDA reports that as of Sunday, 5% of the U.S. corn crop has been harvested, compared to 4% a year ago and the five year average of 9%. 87% of corn has dented, a little faster than 86% on average, and 40% has reached maturity, slightly behind the usual pace of 40%. 68% of corn is in good to excellent shape, unchanged on the week.

35% of soybeans are dropping leaves, compared to 31% on average. 61% are rated good to excellent, 2% less than last week.

97% of spring wheat is harvested, compared to 86% on average, and 9% of winter wheat is planted, matching the five year average.

47% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, 1% below a week ago.
