Water quality a statewide issue in Ohio
The Ohio Senate President says water quality is an issue that is receiving statewide attention.
State Senator Keith Faber, whose Senate district includes Grand Lake St. Marys, is quite familiar with water quality issues. The Senator tells Brownfield the state is on the right path.
“A lot of what we are seeing is a change in the science and a change in the way we used to think about agriculture, and that’s going to improve the outcomes,” Faber said. “When you look at what we are doing just in the Grand Lake St. Marys watershed, it wasn’t too long ago most farmers didn’t have manure management plans, particularly if they weren’t permitted, everybody in the watershed does now and we’re doing adequate steps to get us in the right place, but we need to go from adequate to excellent and we’re getting there and the farm community is taking the lead.”
Senator Faber says as more people think outside the box, more solutions to improve water quality will come about.
