Trade mission to China emphasizes Michigan agriculture

The Michigan’s Department of Agriculture Director says exports to China continue to grow thanks to improving relationships. Director Jamie Clover Adams joined Governor Rick Snyder on his fifth trade mission to China last week. Clover Adams says exports to China have grown to more than $62 million, up 40 percent from 2010.

“We’ve had companies that have had success with dried fruits, dried milk powered, a lot of things in the bakery and ingredient part of the economy.”

Clover Adams tells Brownfield the Chinese market has opened for apples as well and she believes there is increased opportunity for exporting Michigan varieties.

While in China, Clover Adams says Governor Snyder also signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation and expand economic opportunity with four Chinese providences and one major city.
