Timely rains in parts of the western Corn Belt

Across the Corn Belt, locally heavy showers over western and central portions of the region are further benefiting immature corn and soybeans while easing soil moisture shortages across northeastern Iowa and environs.

On the Plains, warm, mostly dry weather favors fieldwork and summer crop maturation, though a few isolated showers are lingering across central portions of the region. Friday’s high temperatures on the High Plains will once again approach the 100-degree mark as far north as central Montana.

In the South, warm, dry weather favors crop maturation and fieldwork, including corn, rice, and sorghum harvest activities. However, locally heavy downpours prevail in the proximity of a stalled frontal boundary over central and southern Florida and the southern Atlantic Coast.

In the West, above-normal temperatures linger over much of the region, although much-needed showers associated with a slow-moving cold front are aiding wildfire containment efforts in the Northwest.
