A quiet pattern ahead for the Heartland

During the next several days, a few showers will linger along the southern Atlantic Coast. Meanwhile, a surge of Southwestern moisture will interact with a cold front crossing the central U.S. As a result, 5-day rainfall totals could reach 1 to 2 inches from the Four Corners States into the upper Midwest. In contrast, little or no rain will fall across the Mid-Atlantic States and the interior Southeast. Toward week’s end, shower activity will begin to increase across the Pacific Northwest, accompanied by cooler conditions.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of near- to above-normal temperatures and near- to below-normal precipitation across most of the U.S. Cooler-than-normal conditions will be limited to the Northwest, while wetter-than-normal weather will be confined to the Pacific Northwest and portions of the Great Lakes region.
