Crop condition ratings hold steady in Ohio

Ohio farmers took advantage of another week of 5+ days suitable for fieldwork. 

According to the Ohio field office of the National Ag Statistics Service the weather last week allowed wheat harvest to continue. For the week ending Sunday, August 2, wheat harvest was 93 percent complete, with another 12 percent of the crop harvested last week.  

59% of the crop was in fair-to-good condition, down two points from the week before. 36 percent of the Ohio wheat crop was rated poor to very poor. 

The condition of both corn and soybeans held steady. As of Sunday 70 percent of corn and soybeans were in fair-to-good condition. 

It was a pretty good week to make hay with 2nd cutting alfalfa reaching 72 percent complete, which was up 16 points from a week ago. Some third cutting alfalfa was reported. 

Pastures in the state were rated 81 percent fair-to-good. 

As of Sunday, topsoil moisture in the state was 90 percent adequate to surplus, the remaining 10% was in the short category.
