Twenty years on, InfoAg technology ‘amazing’

Snapshot 1 (7-30-2015 5-44 AM)The Twentieth Anniversary of the first InfoAg Conference in St. Louis has led to some reminiscing.  One of the presenters at the 1995 event, Champaign, Illinois farmer John Reifsteck, remembers at that first InfoAg Conference talking about beginning to use a yield monitor and having just acquired variable rate fertilizer technology.  He said, however that no working internet existed at the first conference, so Reifsteck demonstrated what he thought the internet’s capabilities would be.

“We had a vision that those things would become more common, but we no idea how powerful the internet, how powerful precision agriculture was going to be,” Reifsteck told Brownfield Ag News Wednesday following his presentation at the 2015 InfoAg Conference.  “We had smaller dreams, but we’re glad we had the dreams because they’ve turned into something that is really pretty amazing.”

These days, Reifsteck is a believer in wireless data transfer and cloud storage, because he says they’re more reliable.  He also advocates for data and precision farming systems that are as simple as possible.
