Significant excessive soil moisture in Missouri

More wet weather around Missouri kept farmers out of the field for about half of last week as rainfall averaged nearly two inches. 47% of Missouri’s topsoil and 38% of subsoil have surplus moisture levels.

Corn development remains slower than average, with 84% of the crop silking, 31% at the dough making stage, and 6% dented. 51% of corn is rated good to excellent.

Soybean development is also behind normal. 94% of the crop has emerged, 33% is blooming, and 10% are setting pods. 30% of soybeans are called good to excellent, with 48% in fair shape.

96% of the winter wheat crop is harvested. The first cutting of alfalfa is at 92%, with the second cutting at 58% and the third cutting at 14%.

70% of Missouri’s pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition.
