Illinois corn development close to average

Farmers in Illinois had a little more than 5 days suitable for fieldwork last week, with below average rainfall allowing them to continue the winter wheat harvest and cutting of hay. More than a quarter of the state continues to report excessive top and subsoil moisture.

Corn development is close to average, with 89% of the crop silking and 32% at the dough making stage. 56% of the crop is in good to excellent condition.

Soybean development is slower than normal, with 72% of the crop blooming at 31% at the pod setting stage. 49% of soybeans are called good to excellent.

95% of the winter wheat crop is harvested. The second cutting of alfalfa is at 73% and the third cutting is at 5%.

77% of pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent shape.
