Hot weather on much of the Plains

Across the Corn Belt, spotty showers dot southern and western corn and soybean production areas. The Corn Belt remains free of drought, although excessive wetness is a lingering concern in parts of the lower Midwest. Despite hot, humid weather, Monday’s temperatures will remain below 95°—limiting stress on reproductive crops.

On the Plains, hot weather prevails in advance of a cold front crossing Montana. Monday’s high temperatures will exceed 100° as far north as South Dakota. The heat is boosting irrigation demands and maintaining stress on summer crops. In Montana, however, cool, rainy weather is benefiting immature small grains.

In the South, hot, humid weather prevails. Showers are mostly limited to Florida and the northern fringe of the South, from Kentucky to Virginia. Some of the most intense heat is occurring from the mid-South to the Mississippi Delta, where today’s temperatures will approach 100°.

In the West, scattered showers are mostly confined to the northern Rockies and northern Intermountain region, where unusually cool, breezy weather prevails. Elsewhere, temperatures are starting to rebound to near-normal levels along and near the Pacific Coast, while isolated showers stretch from Arizona to Colorado.
