Great Dairy Adventure highlights the journey of milk

GDAdventure

Michigan’s Great Dairy Adventure continues to attract hundreds of visitors to learn about the dairy industry.

Coordinator Carla McLachlan says the event is a hit with families and summer children’s programs. She says Michigan State Dairy Club students bring a few cows and calves to the MSU Pavilion as visitors start their tour from cow to cup.

“Having the cows on site and giving kids an opportunity to actually milk a cow is always very popular.”  McLachlan tells Brownfield the adventure continues as visitors meet dairy farmer volunteers and interact with Michigan 4-H activities about agriculture.

She says for 18 years, facility manager and care providers count on the opportunity annually to participate.

“This has been a popular event from the very beginning, it continues to be.” She tells Brownfield, “Fortunately through the support of industry supporters like Michigan Milk Producers we have been able to continue to provide it, and I hope we can continue for many, many more years.”

While the Great Dairy Adventure typically coincides the third week in July with the Michigan Ag Expo, McLachlan says attendance was still up this year to about 1,200 visitors.
