Rabobank analyst sees potential in Southeast Asia

Graydon Chong

A food and agribusiness analyst for Rabobank spoke at Chankaska Winery north of Mankato, Minnesota Thursday night. Graydon Chong told the audience that Southeast Asia is becoming an increasingly important market for U.S. producers.

“As that market grows, not only in population but also in affluence, with rising incomes we see some good opportunities to tap into.”

Particularly animal protein consumption.

“Chicken, poultry and seafood will be very important in that market going forward.”

Chong tells Brownfield the Trans Pacific Partnership will also create opportunities.

“A number of Southeast Asian countries in TPP.  Not only that, but what it means for the region and access potentially into China from the Southeast Asian region as well.”

He says the devil is in the details with TPP negotiations as it remains to be seen which sectors get tariff reductions or exemptions.
