Hot weather on much of the Plains

Across the Corn Belt, early Friday morning thunderstorms are traversing Minnesota and Wisconsin, with rain expected later Friday in Iowa. Elsewhere, mild, sunny weather favors development of corn and soybeans, while supporting harvesting of soft red winter wheat.

On the Plains, hot weather (daytime highs exceeding 100°) is maintaining stress on rangeland, pastures, and summer crops, with Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings in effect in some central and southern farming areas. However, isolated showers are bringing temporary relief to eastern sections of Nebraska and Kansas. A Heat Advisory is in effect in Montana, due to warm, dry, and breezy conditions.

In the South, showers and thunderstorms are expected along a cold front descending across the Southeast, with locally heavy rain (2 inches or more) possible in northern sections of Florida. Meanwhile, summer heat (daytime highs reaching the low 90s°) will maintain high rates of summer crop development.

In the West, showers linger over the Great Basin into the northern Rockies and the lower Four Corners Region. Dry weather prevails elsewhere, though milder weather is easing irrigation demands.
