Corn farmers from across the nation were in D.C. last week for Corn Congress. Michigan corn farmer Jeff Sandborn tells Brownfield this year’s event seemed to be focused on EPA.

“This is our annual event where corn growers from across the Midwest come to vote on new policy and elect the new members of the board of directors, and also visit senators and representatives here in D.C.”  Sandborn says the main issues during the week included the RFS and Waters of the U.S.

He says as farmers compared notes on crop conditions, most are anticipating a “mixed bag” of results at harvest.  “There’s farmers saying they’ll have their best crop ever, and parts of southern Illinois where they have had just non-stop rain, they’re not sure exactly what they will have.”

Sandborn along with Jim Reed of Illinois and Bruce Rohwer of Iowa were elected as new NCGA board members. Keith Alverson of South Dakota and Anthony Bush of Ohio were re-elected to the board.
