Hot, humid weather aids Iowa crop development

Last week’s hot and humid weather boosted crop development across much of Iowa.

Over half of Iowa’s corn crop reached the silking stage, with 83 percent rated good to excellent.  Soybeans blooming or beyond reached 62 percent and 15 percent of soybeans were setting pods.  Soybean condition rated 77 percent good to excellent this week.

Alfalfa second cutting reached 53 percent, five days behind normal. Hay condition was rated 69 percent good to excellent, while pasture condition rated 78 percent good to excellent.
