Nebraska swine producer in Costa Rica

Grilled Pork Chops with Basil Rub - National Pork BoardThe Chairman of the International Trade Committee of the National Pork Board is working in Costa Rica right now at the USMEF Buyer’s Conference for Latin America. He’s swine producer Brian Zimmerman of Beatrice, Nebraska who tells Brownfield it’s a great opportunity for U.S. sellers to meet with potential Latin American buyers, “They get to meet some of their retailers and there prospective buyers down here – whether they own restaurants or distributorships, it doesn’t really matter. It’s all about moving good, high quality product from the U.S. down to Central and South America.”

Zimmerman says the U.S. in the last marketing year sold nearly 350 Million dollars of U.S. pork to South and Central America and 100-Million dollars worth in the Caribbean, “We certainly hope to keep that growing and it has grown every year. We’ve been doing some more work – as far as Pork Board has been doing more work and USMEF as well through South America and a few of the other continents that we have down here that maybe need and are looking for a higher quality product that we can provide.”

This is the fifth year for the U.S. Meat Export Federation’s Buyer’s Conference.
