Heartland Bank enters agricultural lending arena

Heartland Bank_logoAn Ohio based bank has entered the agricultural lending market.

Heartland Bank, with banking centers in Central Ohio has primarily been servicing small business, but Joel Oney, Vice President and Manager of Agribusiness Lending says the move into agricultural lending gets them back to their roots.

“I think the thing that really led the bank to emphasize agricultural lending again was the ability to diversify outside of the Columbus market, the bank has been very successful in small business lending and that’s what’s really grown the bank here in the Columbus area,” said Oney. “To reach outside of that area both from a geographical diversification, but also a business diversification to pull in more agriculture is a good business strategy for the bank.”

Oney says their portfolio includes both dairy and grain farms and they’re working with integrated livestock producers in poultry and swine.

Heartland Bank was founded in 1911 by farmers in the Croton area.
