Missouri dairy bill needs funding
The Missouri Dairy industry hopes the legislature will fund the Dairy Revitalization Act that passed this spring. The law would offset the premiums paid for the Margin Protection Program. Missouri Dairy Association President Lloyd Gunter, a dairy farmer in Conway, says dairy farmers need the help, “So, if they state will pay a large portion of this, it is a big, big benefit to state dairy farmers.”
Representative Bill Reibolt, a former dairy farmer who sponsored the legislation, says he’s working to get the law funded in THIS fiscal year which started July 1st, “The good thing is that general revenue is UP this year so, hopefully, we can get a little bit of that money as early as January (2016) on the supplemental budget.”
Missouri Agriculture Director Richard Fordyce says Governor Nixon wants to see the bill funded and a supplemental budget looks like the way to go.
