Heat, humidity & storms to continue across the Corn Belt

For the remainder of Tuesday, the threat of severe thunderstorms will shift into areas from the middle Ohio Valley to the Carolinas. Meanwhile, cool, dry air will temporarily overspread the Midwest. By week’s end, however, heat and humidity will return to the Corn Belt, accompanied by scattered showers and thunderstorms. Farther south, hot, dry weather will persist in the south-central U.S., where high temperatures will continue to approach, reach, or exceed 100°. In the West, an active monsoon circulation will result in occasional showers, except in the Great Basin and Pacific Coast States.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook calls for the likelihood of below-normal temperatures across the interior West, while warmer-than-normal weather will prevail along the Pacific Coast and in much of the central and eastern U.S. Meanwhile, near- to above-normal rainfall across most of the country will contrast with drier-than-normal conditions in the south-central U.S.
