Another good week for Wisconsin crops

The weekly Crop Progress Report from the National Ag Statistics Service has 29 percent of the Badger State soybeans blooming, up 19 points from a week ago and 9 points ahead of the five-year average.  The beans are rated 82 percent good to excellent condition.

The Wisconsin corn crop is 81 percent good to excellent condition with some reports of silking.

81 percent of the winter wheat and 47 percent of the oats are turning color, both with more than 80 percent in good to excellent condition.  Second-crop alfalfa is 64 percent harvested, 10 points ahead of the five-year average.

Topsoil moisture is 14 percent short, 75 percent adequate and 9 percent surplus compared to 12 percent surplus a week ago and 26 percent surplus two weeks ago.

Portage County reports green pea yields of over 6,000 pounds and even some 7,000 pounds per acre.
