Weather

A warm, still somewhat wet pattern for the Heartland

Through the weekend, lingering, locally heavy showers will maintain abundant levels of moisture for corn and soybeans in key production areas of the middle Mississippi and Ohio Valleys. Additional flooding of low-lying farmland is possible as 3-day rainfall totals approach 2 inches. Rain is also expected to intensify over the next few days over the Pacific Northwest, promising to bring needed relief from heat and dryness to sections of Oregon and Idaho; warm, mostly dry weather is expected to persist, however, in eastern Washington. Farther south, gradually weakening monsoon showers are forecast over Four-Corners Region into northern Texas. Meanwhile, hot, humid conditions will prevail from the Delta to the southern Atlantic Coast, although showers are expected to be widely scattered and light, promising little relief to areas experiencing drought.

Looking ahead, the 6- to 10-day outlook depicts wet weather from the central Plains to the upper Mississippi Valley, as well as in much of the East, with drier conditions expected in and around Texas. Near- to above-normal temperatures are expected across the country, the exception being the Northeast, where cooler weather is forecast.
