Wheat harvest underway in NW Ohio
For some farmers in Northwest Ohio the 4th of July holiday was the beginning of wheat harvest.
Randy Preston, manager of the Heritage Coop Branch at Dola says the crop in northern Hardin County is better than he was expecting.
“Test weight has been 54 to 60 and we’ve had anywhere from 13.3 to 20.5 moisture,” said Preston. “There is some sprout damage, maybe two percent sprout damage, so it’s better than what I thought it would be.”
Preston says while wet areas in some fields are causing problems, with more rain in the forecast farmers are hoping to get the crop that is ready, harvested.
