Groups urge Congress to reject RFS defunding bill

Top StoryMore than two dozen renewable fuels-related groups and companies are urging Congress to reject any proposals “that amend, repeal, defund or otherwise modify or interfere with the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).

They point out an amendment proposed by Congressman Barry Loudermilk of Georgia that would defund the RFS. It would amend the Fiscal Year 2016 Interior and Related Agencies Appropriations bill.

The groups say the RFS has helped reduce foreign oil imports by 25% since the year 2000. They also point to evidence that the RFS has also cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The groups and companies signing the letter include the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE), ADM, DuPont, Monsanto, the Renewable Fuels Association (RFA), POET, American Farm Bureau and Novozymes.

In a separate letter sent by American Farm Bureau President Bob Stallman to the full House, Stallman said: Destabilization of the current regulatory and policy environment would impede further investment that drives innovation in the biofuels space and would have detrimental impacts to the rural economy.”
