Rain brings further recharge to South Dakota topsoil moisture

Showers and thunderstorms this past week brought South Dakota topsoil moisture to 82 percent adequate to surplus.

Corn is 82 percent fair to good, and 13 excellent.

Soybeans are 74 percent fair to good. Seventeen percent of the soybean crop is blooming, which is behind normal.

Spring wheat is 81 percent fair to good, and 11 excellent. It’s 86 percent headed, which is ahead of normal.

South Dakota’s winter wheat is 66 percent fair to good, and 2 excellent. It’s 97 percent headed and three percent mature.

Alfalfa is 85 percent fair to good, and 7 percent excellent.  Baling is behind with 31 percent of the first cutting of alfalfa yet to be done. The second cutting is 6 percent complete.

Pasture and range is 75 percent fair to good, and 16 percent excellent.

Stock water supplies are 90 percent short to adequate.
