Nebraska wheat harvest slowed by rain

The wheat harvest has gotten started in Nebraska, but farmers in some southeastern areas of the state were kept out of the field by rainfall.

As of Sunday, 18% of the winter wheat crop is harvested, compared to the five year average of 24%. 65% of the crop has reached maturity, well ahead of normal.

5% of corn is silking, compared to 12% on average, and 72% of the crop is in good to excellent condition.

95% of soybeans have emerged and 29% is blooming, with 69% of the crop rated good to excellent.

The first cutting of alfalfa is nearly finished at 94% and the second cutting is slower than average at 28%.

77% of Nebraska’s pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition and 87% of the state has adequate stock water.
