It was a very good week in Wisconsin

Wisconsin enjoyed one of the nicest weeks of the year last week with 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork.  Topsoil moisture went from 77 percent adequate and 19 percent surplus a week ago to 78 percent adequate and 12 percent surplus this week.

First crop hay-making is 97 percent complete and second-crop is 41 percent harvested.  That compares to 93 percent and 20 percent a week ago.  The hay is rated 14 percent fair and 83 percent good to excellent condition.

The Badger State corn crop is rated 14 percent fairy, 83 percent good-to-excellent as well.  Dane County reports a lot of corn four-to-six feet tall.  Farmers in Clark County were side-dressing nitrogen trying to help the crop recover from the very wet conditions in June.  The Wisconsin soybeans are 15 percent fair and 82 percent good-to-excellent.  2 percent of the soybeans are blooming

67 percent of the winter wheat and 25 percent of the oats are turning color.
